Barbie Review

I am going to give the Barbie movie a review! I would give this movie a 9 out of 10. I definitely recommend seeing this movie at a movie theater if you haven’t already seen it. There are definitely some really funny parts in this movie. For example, the fight between all of the Kens towards the end of the movie led to a song (I’m just Ken). That part was personally my favorite part of the whole movie!

I want to talk about the different characters in Barbie. First, of course,  Barbie. Barbie is the main character in this movie and is the stereotypical Barbie. Stereotypical means what you first think of, for example in this case blond hair, perfect clothes and pink! Barbie’s schedule is the same everyday. Wakes up, picks out the perfect outfit, has the same thing for breakfast, goes to the beach, meets with important people, has a dance party, and finally girls night not realizing she was excluding Ken. Towards the end of the movie Barbie realizes that a perfect life may not be exactly what she wants.

Next, I want to talk about another main character Ken.  Ken is Barbie’s friend. Ken felt excluded and not respected. Ken insists Barbie take him on her journey to the real world. While he was there he learned about patriarchy which led him to realize the difference between the real world and Barbie land. Ken left the real world alone bearing new information about patriarchy to share with the other Kens and Alan.

Barbie starts realizing some changes. Her feet started to turn flat and she was starting to question herself and have thoughts about death. Barbie went to go see someone named Weird Barbie to get all of her questions answered. Weird Barbie said that she had to journey to the real world and figure out who was making these things happen to her.

Weird Barbie was personally my favorite character in this movie because of her style and personality.

While Barbie was in the real world she realized how different it was there than Barbie land. She found out that the mom of Sasha (the kid who played with her) was the one questioning herself and having these thoughts that were making Barbie think of the same things. Barbie brought Sasha and Gloria (Sasha’s mom) back to Barbie land to prove to them that there was no such thing of patriarchy there.

When Barbie gets back to Barbie land with Sasha and Gloria she finds out what Ken was doing while she was in the real world. She drove back to her dream house to find that Ken had taken over, redecorated, and renamed her dream house the Mojo Dojo Casa House. Barbie instantly gives up and lets the Kens take over. Sasha and Gloria are not thrilled with the idea; they try to convince Barbie to try but she refuses. There is nothing else to try so they leave.

The movie ends with them figuring out how to successfully take Barbie land back and unhypnotize the other Barbie’s. At the very end of the movie Barbie decides she wants to be a part of the real world and leave Barbie land.

I think the movie ends like this because now Barbie has to learn how to take care of herself. The message in this movie is not everything is going to be perfect in life no matter what you do.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post! Definitely go see this movie if you haven’t!
